The Alessandria family have been making wine on their estate since 1870 and today the family legacy lives on through the hard work of Gian Battista, Alessandro and Alessandro’s son, Vittore. The village of Verduno where the estate is based used to be the heartland of the Barolo region where the first modern style Barolo wines were made. These days this legacy is being reclaimed by producers like Fratelli Alessandria who produce elegant, authentic expressions of Nebbiolo shaped by Verduno’s unique terroir.

This youthful Nebbiolo is crafted from the family’s Verduno vines with a third of the juice coming from their Barolo-classified vines. The high elevation of these plots helps to preserve freshness and aromatic character in the wines, resulting in a graceful expression of Nebbiolo with intense red cherry, dried herb, and rose petal notes.

The wine is fermented and aged in large Slavonian and French oak casks over a 10 month period followed by several months more maturing in the bottle. On the palate there is a bright acidity balanced by rich dark fruit flavours, fine tannins, and a well-developed structure which make this ideal to drink alongside charcuterie, cheeses, or fresh pasta served with a zingy tomato sauce.
