Sourced partially from vineyards planted directly above the picturesque Lake Kaltern in the Northern Italian Alps, the Manincor Rubatsch Lagrein has all the hallmarks of a great Lagrein: beautiful berry aromas and flavors, ripe tannins, and a muscular but not heavy body. Aromas of mulberry, elderflower syrup, and licorice are followed by notes of ripe mixes berries and vanilla on the palate. This is a wine that will gain greatly as it ages, although with some decanting it is very approachable now.

This Lagrein will pair well with braised meats, including strongly flavored game, but would also be a delicious match to robust washed rind or alpine style cheeses.

The Manincor Rubatsch is 100% Lagrein, grown at a 250-meter altitude on two southern oriented sites, Rubatsch and Seehof. The Rubatsch site with its sandy soils yields grapes of subtlety and elegance, while Seehof, planted above Lake Kaltern, gives this wine body, structure, and most importantly, ageability. The winemaker utilized the softening impact of 20% new oak barriques for 14 months, mellowing the wine to allow it to be drinkable in its youth, and to give it subtle flavors that will gain complexity as it ages.
