Located in the scenic upper Piedmont close to Milan, the Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo estate occupies an envious position between the dramatic Alps and the vast Po Valley. Ever since the first documented viticultural presence of the Arlunno family in Ghemme in the early 1600s, the estate has been handed down from generation to generation. The modern winery dates from 1980s when Alberto Arlunno took over the running of the estate and began to take the family’s wines onto the market.

First made in 1976, the Agamium is closely linked with the beginnings of the modern Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo estate. This easygoing Nebbiolo was dubbed after the Latin name for Ghemme, the town where the estate is based which was known for its quality wines in ancient times.

The Agamium offers a bridge between the region’s hearty, powerful Nebbiolos which can require decades of ageing before they are ready to drink and the lighthearted, fresh red wines which are well-suited to everyday drinking. After vinification the wine undergoes a short period of oak ageing to add complexity and delicious toasty oak character to the ripe red cherry, dark plum and dried herb profile of the Nebbiolo grape. It is a versatile wine that is equally at home served alongside an elegant meal or enjoyed simply with a platter of hard cheeses and prosciutto.
