Marsannay, které je mezi burgundskými znalci známé pro svá výjimečně hodnotná červená vína, je většinou obýváno butikovými rodinnými doménami, jako je tato, která patří Audoinům již po pět generací. Charles Audoin změnil osud statku v 70. letech 20. století, kdy začal rodinná vína stáčet do lahví, místo aby je prodával místním obchodníkům. Rozšířil také majetek z 2,5 hektaru na 14 hektarů vinic ve většině nejlepších oblastí apelace.

Clos du Roy je ceněným pozemkem pro pěstování odrůdy Pinot Noir díky dobře propustným písčitým a jílovitým půdám, na kterých obvykle vznikají elegantní a vytříbená červená vína, jako je tato láhev. Všechny vinice rodiny jsou obhospodařovány ekologicky bez certifikace a vína se před lahvováním nefiltrují, aby se neztratil přirozený charakter ovoce.

Ze sklenice okamžitě vyskočí maliny, švestky a lesní plody, následované tóny dřevěného kouře, tabákových listů a koření z dubového vína. První doušek odhalí rafinovanou strukturu s elegantními tříslovinami, hedvábně hladkou strukturou a bohatým ovocem v prodlouženém závěru. Ačkoli se toto víno velmi dobře pije již nyní, je vhodné jej v případě potřeby nechat ještě několik let ležet ve sklepě, aby se komplexní chuťový profil ještě více zkrášlil a zvýraznil.

Known by Burgundy insiders for its exceptional value reds, Marsannay is mostly populated by boutique family-run domaines like this one which has been owned by the Audoins for five generations. Raspberries, plums and wild berries immediately leap out of the glass followed by hints of woodsmoke, tobacco leaf and spice from the oak ageing. The first sip reveals a refined structure with elegant tannins, a silky smooth texture and rich fruit on the extended finish. Although drinking very well now, this is a great wine to cellar for a few more years if desired to add even more beauty and character to the complex flavour profile
