Primitivo
Morella La Signora Primitivo 2015
Drink now through to 2026. No need to decant before serving.
Morella was born in 2001 when Lisa and Gaetano decided to experiment with a small plot of ancient Primitivo bush vines. The project proved a great success and before long the couple had invested in 5 hectares of old vines which form the basis of the Morella estate.
The La Signora Primitivo comes from a special single vineyard which Lisa and Gaetano have lovingly restored and revitalised. The site is planted with ancient gnarled bush vines which have an average age of 55 years and are planted on Puglia’s characteristic terra rossa or “red soils” over a bed of limestone. Located between the charming town of Manduria and the Ionian sea, the plot is ideally situated to enjoy the intense sunshine of southern Puglia and the cooling influence of the nearby waters.
These unique conditions and Lisa and Gaetano’s insistence on using biodynamic agricultural practices produce exceptional grapes which in turn become top quality wines. Their La Signora Primitivo is aged in new French oak for 12 months and subsequently aged in the bottle for an additional 24 months. This produces an intense but elegant wine which exudes dark berry, licorice, and dried herb notes which linger long on the tongue.
